Josh and Raj from Aylesbury will be taking part in the 2023 Bucks Radio Tour de Vale on Sunday 11 June and are very excited about the challenge ahead.
11 year old Josh has been keen to do the Tour de Vale for a number of years and after seeing the event banners locally he set in motion plans to sign up, alongside father Raj. Josh continues, “I was interested in participating in the Tour de Vale since I was 9 and this year I decided to speak to my mum. Living nearby I saw one of the signs by the road which rekindled my interest. She explained to me how it worked, and this made me want to really do it! I made a presentation for my Dad to convince him, and was very happy that he said yes too and is on board as well.”
Since signing up Josh and Raj have been our practicing on their bikes and spreading the word about their challenge to people in the local community. “We have been practicing hard, and riding in the local area during our free time in the evening and at weekends. We have been to Waddesdon and back in under 2 hours! Training is tiring but we push through and so far, so good! We both have mountain bikes at the moment but now we are cycling more we have been thinking to get road bikes in the future.”
“Cycling has become really important to both of us, and my Dad encourages me to participate in other sports like football and cricket too. Cycling, especially in sunny weather feels very exhilarating. As someone who loves sport, I know how important it is to stay active and healthy, and I'm honoured to be able to help others do the same by taking part in the Tour de Vale.”
Josh and Raj will be cycling the 25km Tour de Vale that starts and finishes at the birthplace of the Paralympic movement at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. They will ride along cycle paths as they leave Aylesbury before completing a lovely countryside loop along quiet lanes before a return back to where they began. Hundreds of riders are expected at this celebration of cycling and Josh and Raj are very excited!
“We can’t wait to experience the excitement of the day along with all other participants. I’m also really looking forward to spending the day with my Dad and completing the course together.”
As well as training hard Josh and Raj have been doing amazingly well raising vital funds for WheelPower. With the support of family, friends and the local community they have raised over £500 and are very grateful to all those who have donated so far.
“A big thank you for all the donations, every little bit really does count. Your support means the world to us, and together we can help even more. We are looking to do our bit for WheelPower and are passionate about making a difference. I feel happy that we can do this for a local charity and I am already looking forward to volunteering at future events.”
