David Weir passes Buckingham Palace in the men's T54 Marathon on the final day of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. 9th September 2012..

David is one of the most decorated Paralympic athlete who has won 6 gold medals at the Olympics and the London Marathon 8 times.

David was born with a spinal cord transection which left him unable to use his legs.

As a junior Weir took part in WheelPower’s junior sport programme, and regularly attended events at Stoke Mandeville Stadium whilst developing his talents for the wheelchair racing.

He made his Paralympic debut at the Atlanta games at just 17, and in London 2012 was spurred on by the home crowd to won 4 gold medals in the T54 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and marathon. After this success he set up the Weir Archer Academy with his coach, with the aim to unearth stars of the future.

In January 2013 David was made a CBE of the British Empire, and in 2014 he was inducted into the Stoke Mandeville Hall of Fame by Sophie, Countess of Wessex. To this day, David regularly returns to Stoke Mandeville Stadium for athletics Grand Prix events and was honoured for his name to be added to the board alongside Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann at the very place that the Paralympics was born.

David will be competing in the T54 1500m, 5000m and Marathon in Paris.
