Last year our amazing Ambassador Dave Covey set his sights on the London to Edinburgh cycling challenge. He had trained hard and was excited to get going but unfortunately having only just started the event he was forced to pull out with a technical problem on his bike. Fast forward to 2023, and Dave is ready to go again and continue this epic cycling challenge for WheelPower.
Starting from his hometown in Woodley, Berkshire on the 25 June Dave will be cycling all the way to Edinburgh and back. A round trip of 1050 miles that he hopes to complete in a week! He is taking on this challenge to support WheelPower once again and you can sponsor him by visiting his Just Giving fundraising page.
Myself and my trusted mechanical friend will be aiming to complete this challenge in 7 days and know this will be my toughest challenge to date, as unfortunately and for those people that know me well had to pull out of last years event due to a mechanical failure. This of course in my eyes is very much unfinished business which needs to be rectified on Sunday 25th June 2023. My training will be challenging and would like to thank Martin for all the hard work prior and during the event to make this challenge possible, and know Martin will be very much an integral part to complete Woodley to Edinburgh to Woodley.
“Bright and early this morning, its 5am and just waiting to set off and meet my buddies Greg and Ross who will be joining for the first bit of the challenge this morning, and I’ll also be meeting Martin in the first couple of hours. Thank you to everyone who has donated to me so far and all I have to do now is to complete it. I’ll 100% try my best to do that! Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey from start to finish, my colleagues, friends, and family.
The main thing to mention is WheelPower, this lovely charity which I’ve been raising money for over the years. It’s a wonderful charity so please go online to find out more about them.
I’ll be home soon and look forward to giving you ongoing updates on my way. It now leaves me to say, I’m ready to go and I’ll see you at the end.” – Dave
The Half Way point ... Dave has made it all the way to Scotland and is now on his way home! After starting last Sunday Dave has been cycling approximately 150 miles a day as part of this epic cycling challenge for WheelPower. He started in Woodley, Berkshire and headed north, and just kept going until he arrived in Edinburgh. He is taking on this mammoth challenge for WheelPower and all donations to his JustGiving will be very much appreciated, and will help spur him on as he makes his way back to Berkshire.
“Challenge completed in 6 days 16 hours. By far the toughest challenge I have ever done! Thank you so much for everyone that followed me and for all of your words of support and thank you also to everyone that donated to this worthy cause.
My number one thought process throughout was to think about why I am doing this, which was to change people’s lives who are alot less unfortunate than me, and raise substantial amounts of money for this wonderful charity WheelPower. I will most certainly never forget this journey and here’s to the next one.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the wonderful team at WheelPower who supported both myself and Martin who also was very instrumental in me completing this challenge and to all my family, friends, work colleagues and members who also supported me and kindly donated.” – Dave
On behalf of everyone here at WheelPower we would like to congratulate Dave and Martin on the completion of this truly amazing challenge. As a charity we are incredibly lucky to have Dave’s ongoing support and we hope his challenge may have inspired more of you to take up the mantle and do something amazing for WheelPower in the future.
Dave has raised over £2,000 for WheelPower and with your support he hopes to increase this total even further. All donations to his JustGiving page will be gratefully received.
